A bespoke Home Cinema and gaming room in the basement of a modern Lancashire home
When we were approached to create this Home cinema, the previous homeowner took most of the equipment with him. Leaving the space in need of a full new setup. The scope of work included the replacement of all equipment, such as the projector, speakers, and more, with an upgrade to current technology and the integration of modern amenities, such as a smart home system and lighting.
The design and build focused on creating a comfortable and functional space that provided a premium movie-watching experience. The design considerations included maximising space utilisation, ensuring comfort with proper lighting, ventilation, and temperature control, soundproofing to minimise noise from the rest of the home, and smart home integration for control from a single device. This home cinema project took 2 weeks to complete.
Initially, the room was fitted with grid ceiling with tiles that would normally be found in an office space, the client disliked the aesthetic and although made a great route for running cables, it would need to be replaced with something more substantial to stop any rattling when the subwoofer kicked in.
We removed the existing ceiling and re-built it out of a more traditional timber frame which allowed us to gain some extra headroom and still create a void for running cables and installing the height speakers for Dolby Atmos in the ceiling.
We opted to build out the side walls in stud work to hide all the speakers and behind our fabric wall system. Which enabled us to create a floating wall detail on top and below the framing which we used to light the space, creating a clean ceiling with no visible equipment.
We installed the new speakers and subwoofer behind the cinema screen, and a new projector to the rear of the room.
Due to constraints of depth in the side walls, we used Monitor Audio on-wall speakers.
